Solo Work- Look After Your Knees

Natalie has a wonderful ability to find both stillness and mischief in the smallest of moments. Her warm stage presence builds instant trust with an audience, who are happy to join her on her weird and wonderful journey.

Look After Your Knees is my new solo show, which is currently in development. Rooted in clown, this new piece will be playful, thoughtful and use comedy to explore themes that can often be difficult to articulate. I began making this piece in April 2022 on the most fantastic creative retreat in Glastonbury led by International Art Clown Jamie Wood.

The retreats were a game changer, challenging my creative practice in the most wonderful way. I met exceptional people and feel so grateful for the opportunity.

Look After Your Knees – A show about the pain and beauty of getting older, sprinkled with joy and ridiculousness. Performed by a clown delving into the space inside us left behind by loss.

More about the show

Look After Your Knees is a show about the pain and beauty of getting older, what it is to both connect and unravel.

It’s a celebration of being human in all its banality, sprinkled with joy and ridiculousness. Performed by a clown delving into the space inside us left behind by loss.

This new piece is playful, thoughtful and uses comedy to explore themes that can often be difficult to articulate.

Exploring loneliness, tenderness and connection the show touches on Natalie’s personal experience of grief, loss and relationships and the space and time that leaves behind.

The work is deeply personal, full of emotion but hopes to find a lightness in which to explore these things.

It’s about a person trying to unwrap the new version of themselves in a world they don’t recognise and a life they seem uncomfortably in charge of.

‘Be Kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone’ Baz Lurhman, 1999.

This project has received support from Wakefield Council and Arts Council England. If you are interested in supporting this project, I am looking for rehearsal space, funding and opportunities to share works in progress and take the show to Edinburgh- please get in touch.
